Description
AWC Magazine – Issue 132
ISSUE TEASER:
A plethora of updates opens this issue of the American Window Cleaner magazine. ABC announces their new vice-president Jeff Klass, the International Window Cleaning Association (IWCA) announces their board of directors election results, and J. Racenstein launches a new website and catalog.
If a window cleaner is unsure whether a job is safe or not, their best bet is to always rent a lift. AWC contributor Gary Mauer shares a picture of a building with windows less than 20′ above grade but with louvers and canopies attached. He analyzes how one could clean the windows safely.
Statistically, there are 27.2 million small businesses in the US, and 1/5 are husband and wife teams. Publisher Karen Grinter interviews a few small businesses that are family-owned and operated. Grinter concludes that since husband and wife business owners cannot separate home from work, they must learn how to integrate the two worlds.
ISSUE HIGHLIGHTS:
- Jobsite procedures and enforcing work rules
- Information on managing expenses in a difficult economic climate
- How to deal with difficult climates
- Why window cleaning businesses should perform background checks of their employees
