AWC Magazine Collector’s Edition – Issue 10

ISSUE TEASER:

For the hobbyists out there, are you looking to build up your window cleaning collection?

Look no further than this 10th edition of AWC Magazine!

In this issue, we’ve got featured articles from June 1988 from authors Judy Suval, Harold Gidish, Rod & Rich, Steve Davis, Jackie Kopp, and more!

AWC interviews the “madman” who changed the method of cleaning windows in Britain, Scott Young. After spending his early years with his father in the Channel Islands just off England, he migrated to Canada, where he established a series of major window cleaning companies throughout the country. Always on the go, Scott commutes from his home in Chelsea near London, to his factory in Stourbridge, West Midlands, to his farm in Grand Valley, Canada.

In the beginning of his young adulthood, he gravitated towards window cleaning, as it was the only profession he could manage to find to do. At that time, you either worked, starved, or went to the Salvation Army, as there was no welfare. He went from one job to the next, then started his own contract cleaning company in 1956. When he married back in Britain in 1958, he realized they did not clean with a squeegee there. Unfortunately, nobody was convinced.

That was until he jumped in a cab, told him to drive to the first window cleaner he saw, and cleaned the window out from under him, running back into the cab for the next. Folks were stunned, and he continued all over London for three weeks. This broke the bubble, and people started wanting the squeegee, thus, bringing Scott his ultimate fortune.
